December 3rd, 2011
Some interesting facts about pets and X-Mas...

1) A bit over half of all Amricans with pets will buy their pets a gift or two at X-Mas.

2) They will spend on average about $46 on their pets.

3) A new AP-Petside.com poll said that 68% of pet gifts are a toy and most of the rest of the gifts are food or a treat.

4) While the average budget for pet gifts among those surveyed was $46, approximately 72% of those polled said they'd spend $30 or less. Those who bought gifts for their pets last year said they spent $41 on average.

5) Interestingly, income does matter for pet gift buying as those making $50,000 or more a year said they plan to spend an average $57 on their pets. Those making under $50,000 said it will be $29.

6) Overall, 51% of those polled this year said they would buy holiday gifts for their pets, a figure that's been relatively stable in the last few AP-Petside.com polls. It was 53% last year, 52% in 2009 and 43% in 2008.
